WHO WE ARE

 

TSEF is a volunteer organization focused on the active learning experiences for children in the technologies that will shape their future. We offer hands-on learning experiences that give the children their parents and grandparents the chance to directly engage in science and technology career exploration. 


First, We are always looking for volunteers that engage in the development experiments, demonstrations and field trips in support active learning. 


Second, volunteers actively engaged in mentoring, student interns as trainers and

supervising field trips. High School seniors interested in building a resume in community service. 


Third, interested donors and fund raisers to participate in our programs for the development of maker spaces and resources where children and adults learn  joy of

discovery.

PROGRAMS IN DEVELOPMENT

Phase 1 

Supporting various GISD after school programs, the NEST Empowerment Center,  boys and girls clubs.

 THIS IS WHERE WE ARE NOW

 a. Materials and kits  

We source STEM kits for experiments and demonstrations 

b. Volunteers and professionals

We are working with Interns from SU, parent volunteer and high school students interested in science education.

c. Maker space development and field trips. 

Working with various resources in the city with class room and green house space.


Phase 2 

Volunteers, parents, science and engineering professionals to extend our resources 

a. Funding for supplies and expanding hands-on experiences.

We are supported in part from grants from the Texas Workforce Solutions.

b. Field trips and outdoor programs c. Funding for maker space and scheduling discovery sessions.

Programs with the NEST to build out Monarch and other  butterfly habitats. 


Phase 3 

Program to develop a permanent maker and demonstration space 

a. Finding existing locations 

c. Repurpose a building or build a facility (land & building construction)

Elizabeth McFarland is an attorney who helps families and business owners plan their tax strategies. She currently serves on the GISD Board of Trustees.

Dr. Sarah Brackman is Senior Director of the Center for Integrative Learning at Southwestern University. She oversees student involvement in community service for the University.
